Excavations at Lake Lucone in Polpenazze have uncovered extraordinary finds, including the shell of a turtle dating back 4,000 years, bones of dogs and cattle, and sickles used for wheat processing. This Bronze Age pile-dwelling site, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2011, has involved around forty researchers and volunteers from various Italian and international universities. The excavations will symbolically conclude on September 22 with a celebration.

Marco Baioni, the director of the Archaeological Museum of Valsabbia, emphasized the exceptional state of preservation of the artifacts discovered. Among these, a previously unknown wooden handle stands out, along with sickles used for cutting the stems of an extinct cereal and over 50,000 bone fragments found over the years. The campaign was funded by the Region with 42,000 euros and has attracted tourists from various European countries, indicating a growing interest in the site.
