Fake Carabinieri Scams Targeting Garda Hoteliers and Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making telephone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering magazine subscriptions from the force.

They are not military personnel, but con artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

having the money, disappear and do not show up again.
