Lazise mourns the loss of Antonio Romagnoli, known as “Memi,” a true who dedicated his life to Lake Garda. At the age of ninety, Memi passed away after just a few days in the hospital, leaving behind a daughter, a son-in-law, and two grandchildren. Renowned throughout the lower Veronese lake area, he spent much of his life as a professional fisherman, but with the advent of tourism in the 1950s, he also took on the role of lifeguard, obtaining certification to rescue tourists in distress.
His dedication earned him a bronze medal for civil merit in 2006 for the courage he demonstrated in rescuing numerous swimmers in danger. Memi was beloved by all for his warmth and willingness to help; active in the local Schola Cantorum, he enjoyed sharing stories from his life and crafting fishing nets to give to friends. The community remembers him fondly and with gratitude for his altruistic and generous spirit.
