On May 15, the first direct emissions-free (Scope 1) rolling mill in Germany was inaugurated in Riesa, marking a significant milestone for the Feralpi Group and the production of green steel. The investment, exceeding 220 million euros, represents the largest economic commitment made by the Italian multinational in the country. With the launch of the plant, approximately 100 new jobs are expected to be created in the Saxony region. The “spooler” rolling mill introduces innovative technologies such as continuous rolling through billet welding and zero-emission induction furnaces, thus contributing to the decarbonization of the steel industry.
During the inauguration, the president of the Feralpi Group, Giuseppe Pasini, emphasized the importance of technological innovation in strengthening competitiveness in the global market and promoting sustainable production. He also highlighted the need to collaborate with German and European political institutions to address challenges related to energy costs and the recycling of ferrous materials. This new production line not only represents a technological advancement but also a concrete commitment to a circular economy and resilient manufacturing in Europe.
