Fires in Brescia Province: New Blazes in Idro and Vobarno
Wildfires in the Bresciano area are continuing to affect the Alto Garda, with firefighting operations in the wooded Coste area above Olzano di Tignale entering their fifth day on Tuesday, August 11. New fires broke out in Idro and Vobarno after Monday’s thunderstorm lightning. In Vobarno, flames reached a difficult-to-access area reachable only by helicopter, but air support is limited by the lack of suitable water points. In Idro, ground crews are on site along with 17 operators from the regional wildland fire service, and there are currently no active hotspots reported.
In Tignale, wind helped trigger new flare-ups along the ridge, where firefighters, wildland teams from the Parco, and two helicopters are working. The aircraft are being refueled using tanks prepared by Garda volunteers, while drought is making water supply difficult; some hotel and accommodation pools have also been made available for refilling. No risks to people have been reported so far, but concerns remain high for the forested areas.
