Fluorescein in Riva del Garda: water monitoring and protection
On the morning of Wednesday, July 30, the channel at Riva del Garda drew attention due to its unusual deep green color, raising concerns among residents. The municipal administration promptly clarified that this was fluorescein, a non-toxic organic compound used to trace underground water pathways. The local police employed this method during checks related to an incident involving the spillage of an oily liquid that had occurred in the previous days, when firefighters intervened with a containment barrier to limit the spread.
The administration took the opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of safeguarding water resources, warning that any waste thrown into storm drains can end up directly in the lake. For years, the Municipality of Riva del Garda has been collaborating with AGS to promote the campaign “The Lake Starts Here,” aimed at raising public awareness about more responsible and environmentally respectful behaviors towards aquatic environments.
