Fraudsters Impersonate Police to Scam Garda Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Identifying scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

have money but are no longer seen.
