Fraudsters Pose as Carabinieri in Garda Phone Scams

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not soldiers, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the Comune (Municipality).

Recognizing the scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

would be seeking money, and then disappears.
