Recently, the mayors of the Veronese Riviera gathered to discuss the critical situation concerning the Garda collector, a vital project for the environmental protection of the area. During the meeting held on Monday, the 24th, at the Province of Verona headquarters, the twenty mayors and representatives from the Gardesana Servizi Company expressed their concerns over the cuts to the funds promised by the Ministry of the Environment. Initially, 100 million euros had been guaranteed, but a recent communication drastically reduced the amount to just 52 million, with only 22 million allocated for the Veronese shore. This reduction has raised questions about the availability of the remaining funds and their distribution between the two shores of the lake.
The president of AGS, Angelo Cresco, emphasized the importance of clarifying how these funds will be utilized to avoid delays in the planned works. The mayors’ request is clear: adequate resources must be ensured to initiate the projects that are already ready and to protect the lake’s ecosystem. The mayor of Bardolino, Daniele Bertasi, reiterated that prioritizing the enhancement of the local environmental heritage is essential and urged against pitting the two shores of the lake against each other, advocating instead for a sensible approach towards the implementation of necessary projects.
