Garda Area Fraud: Impersonators Pose as Police for Scam Calls

They impersonate carabinieri when making telephone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to Army magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after receiving the money, disappear.
