Garda Area Scammers Pose as Police, Offer Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the armed forces.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be careful and immediately inform genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, disappears.
