Garda Area Scammers Pretending to Be Carabinieri and Authorities

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be from the tax authorities, police, firefighters, or local police officers (Vigili del Comune).

Recognizing the scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have no connection to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

claim to have money but then disappear and no longer show themselves.
