Garda Centomiglia Regatta Returns with Lottery Support and Youth Focus
The National Lottery will return to Garda from August 24 to 26, coinciding with the «Centomiglia Games» (the Centomiglia competitions). For the third time, after the editions of 1991 and 1995, a sailing race held on Garda waters and organized by the Circolo Vela Gargnano will benefit from this opportunity. A significant contribution, especially in terms of sports and tourism promotion for the lake.
During the «Centomiglia Games», four fleets will be on the water, representing the Libera, Asso, and Protagonist classes (the most prominent), along with Optis, with young sailors under 15 years old enrolled in sailing schools around Garda. The program includes a packed schedule of competitions, culminating in the final race held in the waters in front of Bogliaco and Gargnano.
Official Presentation and Institutional Interventions
At the presentation, held at the Circolo Vela Gargnano, there were also the provincial councilor Ermes Buffoli and the president of the Garda Community, Pino Mongiello. It was also an opportunity to meet the new president of Circolo Vela, Luciano Galloni, who provided a summary of the first six months leading the organization.
Galloni speaks openly. He introduces a new manifesto with the slogan «Gargnano City of the Centomiglia». He emphasizes that «around fifteen major races take place worldwide, with the match race format, head-to-head. Two are Italian, and one is in Gargnano».
Activities and Commitments of the Sailing Club
The club’s activity? «We have a solid youth sector led by Marco Pedrotti. The young sailors need to see sailing as a way of life and a challenge: essentially like the Centomiglia». Supporting these commitments requires effort and contacts. «In this context, agreements have been made with Marina Yachting (apparel), with the Gruppo Ras, and with Ibm». This year, the 51st Centomiglia will take place, and it already appears to be gaining momentum.
But we must not forget the «Pedrini Cento Cup», which will see teams like Prada (with Francesco De Angelis), Mascalzone Latino (with Paolo Cian), along with American and Swiss participants.
Furthermore: «An agreement has been reached with the daily newspaper Tuttosport and with Pompea company, which will supply a special model of socks whose sales will fund the organization of the World Championship for the visually impaired, scheduled for 2002».
