Garda Fraud Alert: Fake Police Calls Targeting Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or the Municipality police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately alert the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,
