Garda Fraudsters Impersonate Carabinieri in Phone Scams Targeting Local Businesses

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines from the Arma.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or titles that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So, be cautious and immediately alert the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after obtaining the money, disappear without a trace.
