Garda Fraudsters Impersonate Police to Scam Hoteliers and Shops

They pose as Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to the armed forces‘ magazines.

They are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to be from the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
