Garda Scam Alert: Fake Police Calls Targeting Local Businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the army’s magazines.

These are not actual military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you are targeted by individuals who,

if they need money, tend to disappear immediately.
