Garda Scam Alert: Fraudsters Pose as Carabinieri to Target Local Businesses
They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
This is not about military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.
How to Recognize the Scams and How to Respond
They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement.
So, be careful and immediately notify the real Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
after getting the money, disappears.
