Garda Scam Alert: How to Spot Impersonators Targeting Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering magazine subscriptions from the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, on different occasions, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you are targeted by someone who,

after obtaining money, disappears and is no longer seen.
