Garda Scam Alerts: Beware of Impersonators & Fake Police Calls

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have no connection to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by someone who, if they had money, would no longer be visible.
