Garda Scammers Impersonate Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, other police forces, fire brigade, or municipal police force.

Recognizing the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, exercise caution and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

would demand money and then disappear.
