Garda Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Local Businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to newspapers of the force.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, police, fire brigade, or the Municipality police.

Identifying scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

claims to have money and then disappears.
