Garda Scammers Pose as Carabinieri in Fake Magazine Schemes

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not members of the military, but con artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal guards.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to fake magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, if they have money, disappear.
