Garda Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Target Local Businesses

They pose as carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to Army magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance department, police, fire brigade, or local police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after receiving money, disappear without a trace.
