Garda Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shops

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the force‘s magazines.

These are not law enforcement officers, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or Comune (Municipal Government).

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they had money, would no longer appear.
