Garda Scammers Pose as Police, Target Local Businesses in Phone Fraud

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the arm.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, on different occasions, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the Carabinieri – simply dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after collecting the money, disappear and are no longer visible.
