Garda Scams: How to Spot Fake Police Calls and Protect Yourself

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military publications.

They are not actual military personnel but con artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire department, or the municipal police.

How to identify scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, will disappear and not return.
