Garda Summer Tourism Boosts as Weather and Campgrounds Perform Well

Positive numbers for Garda’s summer tourism. Perhaps more than many expected, although there are conflicting reports coming from the field. “The best gift,” admits Marco Zaninelli, the extraordinary commissioner of the Azienda di Promozione Turistica Riviera degli Olivi, “came from the weather. Such favorable climatic conditions haven’t been recorded in several years, and this could only benefit all operators.”

Positive indications and season data

Especially those of open-air accommodation providers, don’t you think? “The data processed by our statistical office seem to indicate this with more substantial increases, both in arrivals and in the days of tourists’ presence, in villages and campsites compared to hotels. Overall, an increase of about seven to eight points compared to last summer.”

Perhaps what no one expected? “Actually, positive signals,” notes Zaninelli, “had already been gathered in late spring from tour operators and regional tourism offices, with favorable forecasts, though with more modest percentages, particularly concerning European tourist flows.”

Weather conditions and tourist inflow

But the winning card came from meteorology, with three months of exclusive sunny days, leading to an unprecedented influx at campsites and tourist villages.”

As it seems, the usual German-speaking clientele overwhelmed the area… “In addition to those, numerous Danes and Dutch travelers in July, followed gradually by Bavarians like Helmut and Franz, who increasingly prefer to move their holidays to September.”
