Garda to Host Tyrolean Casino Simulation and Swarovski Exhibits
The lake wants its casino. Or rather, it wants it back, since in the past there was a gaming house. In fact, there were even two: one in Arco and the other in Gardone Riviera.
In the Trentino location, a committee has even been established to revitalize the Arco candidacy. Gardone, on the other hand, has joined the National Association for Tourism Growth, which brings together about twenty municipalities that have submitted an official application for concession to the Ministry of the Interior.
About twenty years ago, a potential candidacy was also proposed by Garda, but nothing more came of it. However, now, at least for a weekend, Garda will have its casino.
The simulation and the event
It will be a small, demonstrative gaming room, located at the exhibition hall behind the town hall. And the prizes will be paid in sweets and chocolates.
But it will be a top-notch simulation, arranged by one of Europe’s most renowned casinos, the Innsbruck casino. And for this occasion, the director of the Tyrolean casino, Hannes Matheowitsch, who had already visited the riviera last summer, will return to the lake.
The casino simulation, complete with a roulette table, is scheduled from today to Sunday as part of the Christmas among the Olive Trees events. The first weekend is dedicated to Innsbruck, which will focus on gaming, traditional cuisine, and the famous Swarovski crystals, also featured in the exhibition hall rooms.
The Swarovski crystal and other attractions
Swarovski is headquartered in Wattens, a small town about fifteen kilometers from the Tyrolean capital: it was here that Daniel Swarovski founded his company in 1895, which would become the world leader in crystal cutting.
The centenary in 1995 was celebrated by creating the Swarovski Kristallenwelten, the World of Crystals, a series of huge, futuristic installations dedicated to the crystal. These were designed by André Heller, one of the geniuses of contemporary multimedia art, who collaborated with other extraordinary artists or was directly inspired by them.
(Music, for example, is by Brian Eno, a stele is signed by Keith Haring, and other works draw inspiration from Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol.)
Visited by over four million people, the exhibit is undoubtedly the flagship of the Tyrolean company, but its jewelry and crystal figures remain highly renowned and sought-after. The demand has even led to the creation of a collectors’ club, the Sammler Club Swarovski, which counts 470,000 members across 25 countries worldwide.
And it will be the collectible trinkets that will be exhibited in Garda.
The Tyrolean cuisine and traditions
As for the cuisine, it will be entirely rooted in Tyrolean tradition. The food and wine stand will feature specialties such as cheese gnocchetti, pork with knedli, bratwurst with sauerkraut, mustard, and kren, speck, apple strudel with cream, all accompanied by wine and beer served in special glasses.
And for a weekend, Garda will become the Sea of Tyrol, as they say in Innsbruck.
