Garda Tram: Analysis of Sustainable Mobility in Brescia
The Garda Tramway was the focus of a meeting involving members of parliament and regional councilors from Brescia, held at Palazzo Broletto. During the meeting, a feasibility study developed by the University of Brescia was presented, coordinated by professors Giulio Maternini and Benedetto Barabino. Participants agreed on the importance of developing a new system of sustainable mobility to alleviate traffic directed towards the city, with particular emphasis on the connection between Brescia and Villanuova sul Clisi. The project envisions a route of nearly 22 km with 11 stations, connecting several municipalities in the province. The estimated investment is around 722 million euros, but the economic benefits are expected to outweigh the projected costs. It is estimated that in the first year, over 10 million passengers could be transported, thereby contributing to an improvement in local quality of life and a reduction in environmental impact.
