Garda Uno Environmental Education Initiative for Schools near Lake Garda
The primary goal is to enhance and deepen the awareness of the tasks and activities of Azienda Speciale Consorzio Garda Uno. This is the purpose of a project that has been actively pursued for some time by the councilor of the Azienda, Dr. Walter Romagnoli, in collaboration with external consultant Professor Adalberto Da Casto.
This initiative is mainly aimed at the first-grade school environment within the Garda area affected by Garda Uno’s environmental activities. Numerous meetings between the Consortium representatives and educational sector leaders have taken place in recent months, with another scheduled for the end of August. If everything proceeds smoothly, the initiative is planned to be presented at the beginning of the next school year.
Relevance and methods of the initiative
A natural vehicle for dissemination, students can directly reach most households with the message that Garda Uno aims to emphasize: increasing public awareness about the protection and conservation of environmental assets and the entire ecosystem along the shores of Lake Garda, which are incredibly valuable. The focus of the project will primarily be on three sectors: water, waste management, mobility, and road network maintenance.
Of course, the entire project package must be presented and proposed to teachers to secure their approval and collaboration. It is a project born not by chance but within the framework of ongoing environmental activities in Brescia’s schools, particularly those located within the Garda Brescia territory.
Development and support of the project
The intervention planned for each subject will include technical-scientific support to the involved teachers and assistance in developing educational units to be presented to students during the 1999/2000 school year.
As mentioned, three sectors will be the focus: capturing, distributing, and purifying water; waste separation, disposal, and renewable energy sources for waste management. The participating middle schools will be Desenzano or Rivoltella, Sirmione, Manerba, San Felice del Benaco, Padenghe, and Salò.
