Gargnano Sailing Club Hosts ‘Navigating the Sea of Solidarity’ Conference
The conference «Navigating the Great Sea of Solidarity» will return on May 6, an initiative promoted by the Gargnano and Toscolano Maderno Sailing Clubs thanks to the collaboration of the Avis di Salò, the sponsorship and support of the Toscolano Maderno Municipal Administration, as well as the collaboration of the Community of Garda and the Parco Alto Garda.
Themes and Participants
The «subtitle» will focus on the Italian boat of the America’s Cup, titled «Illuminated by a… Red Moon». In recent weeks, preliminary stages leading up to the May event have been scheduled.
In March, in Milan, a space managed by the «Nave di Carta» Association and the «Mursia» Publisher, hosted various activities. Among other initiatives, the 4th edition of the Gardesane conference will feature the presentation of a maxi-regatta open to everyone, which will take place in 2001 in the large Gulf of La Spezia.
Twelve months ago, Giovanni Soldini opened the discussion forum. Iconic images included Alina, a German girl battling leukemia who, thanks to the German association «Desideri del cuore» and a fast hull of an Asso 99, fulfilled her sailing wish along the shores of Garda.
Activities and Initiatives
The Don Gnocchi Foundation and the Yacht Club di Milano had presented «mixed» holidays, with crews sailing the Tyrrhenian Sea with young students from Milanese schools and individuals with severe disabilities. Bologna, representing Telethon, and the Yacht Club Romagna with Livio Bonetti, discussed the fully automated version of the 2.4 hull, the boat designed for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
From Genoa came the experience of the association «Non solo vela», which supports mental health patients. The Mursia publisher donated a maritime library containing 130 titles to the Municipality of Toscolano Maderno.
Among other organizations present at the event, notable mentions include the blind sailors of Homerus, Olympic swimmer Carlo Piccoli, the Exodus Foundation founded by Don Mazzi, and L’Anffas.
Program and Promotion
This year’s edition will serve as a true forum, almost certainly coordinated by Riccardo Bonacina, director of «Vita» magazine and host on Raidue of a program dedicated to volunteering and the «no profit». The event will be held in the large gymnasium of the elementary schools in Maderno and broadcast online by the students of the «E. Fermi» High School of Salò.
In the afternoon, the «Bring a Friend by Boat» regatta will take place, featuring fast Dolphin 81 sailboats from the Gargnano Sailing Club. These boats are used in the Garda leg of the world match-race circuit.
