The turning point for the tunnel between Gargnano and Tignale has finally arrived, with Anas submitting the favorable opinion from the Superintendency to the Ministry of the Environment, allowing for the conclusion of the environmental assessment. The president of the Mountain Community of the Upper Garda Brescia Park, Franceschino Risatti, announced that clearance is expected to be received within a couple of weeks, after which Anas will convene the Conference of Services to proceed with the drafting of the executive project and the tendering process. This project, valued at 1.8 million euros and supported by the fund for municipalities bordering Trentino, aims to address the traffic issues caused by congestion in the old tunnels north of Gargnano.
Over the past two years, the bureaucratic process had been stalled due to the wait for the Superintendency’s opinion. However, now that this document has been obtained, there should be no further obstacles to the final necessary authorizations. The construction of the tunnel falls under the Anas-Mit Program Agreement for 2021-2025 and is expected to be awarded in 2025, provided the environmental procedure concludes on schedule. Initiated in 2016, the project path has already passed through several significant phases, including the approval of the feasibility project and the environmental authorization from the Lombardy Region. The total estimated cost for this Upper Garda infrastructure is 126.2 million euros and is financed through a contract between Anas and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
