Geographical Indications Drive Bologna’s Dop Economy

Alessandro Beduschi, regional councilor for Agriculture and President of Arepo, emphasized the importance of Geographical Indications (GIs) for Italy’s competitiveness and territorial development during a Bologna conference. He highlighted that GIs are valued at over €20 billion nationally, with €2.9 billion attributed to Lombardy, particularly in the dairy sector.

Beduschi also discussed the upcoming European Action Plan for GIs, scheduled for 2027, and called for a strategic political approach rather than technical measures. He stressed the significance of decisions related to the Multiannual Financial Framework and the future Common Agricultural Policy.
