The 2025 Giro d’Italia has officially kicked off, with Alto Garda and the Brentonico Plateau taking center stage in the 16th stage, scheduled for Tuesday, May 20. The Corsa Rosa will traverse Lake Garda in one of its most challenging stages, covering a distance of 199 km from Piazzola sul Brenta to San Valentino, with nearly 5,000 meters of positive elevation gain. The first part of the route will feature a flat start for the initial 50 km, followed by the dreaded climb of Carbonare in the Astico Valley.
The cyclists will head towards Trento, tackling the first half of Monte Bondone up to Candriai, before continuing towards Vigo Cavedine. The arrival in Alto Garda will mark a crucial moment in the stage, with the Passo di Santa Barbara featuring an average gradient of 9% and peaks of up to 14%. This decisive segment could significantly impact the standings, while the technical descent towards Mori will lead to the tough final climb towards San Valentino. Concluding with its last 17 km being extremely challenging, this stage promises intense excitement and an unforgettable spectacle for cycling enthusiasts.
