Groppello and Valtènesi: triumph of indigenous wine at the Palio

The 56th Palio del Groppello took place at the Saottini agricultural estate in Lonato del Garda, where the native wine of Valtènesi, Groppello in its pure form, triumphed over the other two finalists, the wines from Delai Sergio in Puegnago and Taver in Manerba, which tied for second place. The brothers of the Brotherhood tasted the three wines blind, paired with a skewer prepared by Chef Carlo Bresciani from Antica Cascina San Zago in Salò. During the event, the Brotherhood awarded special certificates to various labels, including the Groppello Riserva Costaripa Castelline vintage 2023 and the Groppello Gran Riserva Arzane vintage 2020. Furthermore, Paolo Pasini, president of the Valtènesi Consortium, praised the Brotherhood’s commitment to promoting the Groppello Gentile grape variety and its significance for the agronomic identity of the area. Marcello Berlucchi also emphasized the historical importance of this grape variety within the Brescia wine scene. Italian Version
