Guided Tour of Brescia’s Jewish Waterfront as Part of Museo nella città

A guided walk focused on the Jewish quarter, promoted by Mag under the “Museum in the City” programme, will take place on Saturday 11 July with departure from the museum at 10:30. The tour will be led by historian Maria Luisa Crosina and will trace the historical places of the community, including the well-known “vicolo degli Ebrei” (Jewish Alley). The activity costs €3 in addition to the museum ticket, and no booking is required.

The guide will cover the documented presence of Jews between Piazza Granda and the former Contrada Lata from 1430 through the 18th century, explaining that it was not a closed ghetto but a network of homes and shops integrated into the city, including businesses in Piazza San Rocco. The route will visit or point out surviving or reconstructed material traces, such as the prayer site, the ritual slaughter area in Piazza San Rocco, the synagogue identified in the building opposite the town hall at the corner with Via Fiume, the cemetery identified via an enlarged Burgleckner map, and the “lapide di Mussulam,” currently kept at the museum.
