The Santuario del Carmine in San Felice del Benaco will host a historical exhibition dedicated to the Carmelite Blessed Battista Spagnoli and Bartolomeo Fanti starting from May 15, 2025. This event is promoted by the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Italian Province of the Carmelites. It is part of the Jubilee journey and offers a unique opportunity to explore the significant figures of the Carmelite Order in the 15th century, as well as the historical and artistic heritage of the sanctuary itself, which has had strong ties to Mantua and the Gonzaga family.
The exhibition will allow pilgrims, faithful, and tourists to delve into the religious history of Spagnoli, known as the “Christian Virgil,” and Fanti, through a rich display of iconographic works. The developments of the Carmelite Order will also be addressed, with a particular focus on the Mantuan Congregation and its crucial role in European Renaissance culture. A special emphasis will be placed on the origins of the Sanctuary and its relationship with the lords of Mantua, highlighting the historical significance of these figures in the Brescia context.
