Desenzano del Garda: 28-Year-Old Returns to Jail Accused of Murdering a Homeless Man. Fernando Velcu, a 28-year-old Romanian citizen, has been re-arrested following new evidence that has reopened the case concerning the death of Hackim Fawzi, a homeless Moroccan who died on May 15 inside the local train station. Initially released due to a lack of evidence, Velcu is now accused of having struck Fawzi with a punch during a violent altercation, causing him to fall and suffer severe injuries to the back of his neck that ultimately led to his death despite emergency surgery.
Investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of the Operational Unit of the Desenzano Company revealed that the injuries found on the victim are inconsistent with an accidental fall, as indicated in the preliminary report by the medical examiner. This new development prompted the judiciary to impose a precautionary measure against Velcu, with the arrest taking place at the request of the public prosecutor and the order of the preliminary investigations judge in Brescia.
