The housing emergency around Lake Garda is becoming increasingly alarming, with a dramatic rise in requests for public housing. Recent statistics reveal that in Desenzano, there have been 425 applications for only 8 available apartments, while Salò has recorded 67 requests for just 4 housing units, and Lonato has 65 families waiting for a single apartment. These figures highlight a growing crisis in the public housing sector, exacerbated by a shortage of apartments and rising rental and purchase prices.
The situation is further complicated by comparisons to the previous year: in 2024, there were 626 requests for 30 housing units, but this year the number has doubled. Local authorities have acknowledged the severity of the problem through the Housing Supply Plan, which underscores a significant need in Desenzano and the surrounding areas. The necessity for concrete actions from local and regional authorities is now more urgent than ever to address this escalating housing emergency.
