The state road 240 in the Ledro Valley, which connects Molina and Pieve, has been closed since February 11th due to a collapse of debris and rocks. Work to restore the accessibility of this important road artery began immediately after the event.
The intervention is quite complex because it also involves the operation of the hydroelectric power plant located within the rocky corner affected by the collapse. Before proceeding with the demolition of the unstable volumes, it was necessary to temporarily move the backbone of the telephone line in the Ledro Valley.
At the end of the intervention, almost 2000 cubic meters of rock will have been removed using remote-controlled machinery to ensure the safety of the workers. Metal nets have also been used to protect the roadbed, and about 100 cubic meters of concrete have been used to consolidate the rock wall.
Currently, work is being completed to reshape the rock face upstream of the roadbed. The reconstruction of the support wall damaged by the collapse is also underway, with the use of specialized teams. In addition, further work will be carried out to consolidate some rock blocks in the wall downstream of the road.
The goal is to reopen state road 240 in early May, initially with alternating one-way traffic. Some work will still need to be completed, including restoring the safety barrier along the valley edge and paving with asphalt conglomerate. It will also be necessary to complete the cycle and pedestrian path in the section affected by the reshaping of the rock wall.
Regarding school transportation, starting from April 15th, special services will be activated for students attending institutes and schools between Riva del Garda, Varone, and Arco. Several lines managed by Trentino Trasporti and the Trentino autonoleggiatori Consortium will be available.
