Issues Plague Expo Riva Schuh Amid Illegal Work and Licensing Problems

Checks and Issues at Expo Riva Schuh

It’s a truly forgettable edition of Expo Riva Schuh. The day before the opening, the officers from the Riva police station discovered during some checks that among the employees of the stands’ companies were eight non-EU workers without residence permits, thus working illegally.

In late Monday morning, another blow: the Riva Police verified that the self-service on the ground floor of the Baltera was operating without the necessary license to provide catering services. An immediate fine was issued (ranging between 2 and 6 million euros) to the operator of the establishment — the owner of the «Risto 3» company from Rovereto who manages the service — and, shortly after, the restaurant was ordered to close.

Impact and Causes of the Problems

A significant blow — both economically for the company and reputational for the fair — likely caused by a misunderstanding between the owners of Risto 3 and the competent offices of the Comune di Riva, which are responsible for issuing all necessary permits.

As a result, hundreds of stand operators and even more visitors had to improvise, having lunch “on the go.” Fortunately, this inconvenience lasted only a short while: until late that same day, when the licenses were issued, duly signed and stamped.

Restaurateurs and municipal offices, in fact, promptly rectified the bureaucratic gap in record time.
