Italian Women’s Match Race Championship Wins Highlight Rising Talent

The Italian Women’s Match Race Championship was held on Saturday and Sunday, organized by the Fraglia della vela di Riva. The competition saw the participation of the best crews selected for the finals, including that of the very young skipper Giulia Conti, 16 years old, from the Circolo vela di Toscolano Maderno.

Results and lineup of the winning team

The crew, with bowman Angela Baroni from the Fraglia vela Riva, Lombard sailor Alessandra Marenzi, and Ravenna native Giulia Mazzotti, secured a brilliant first place, with eight wins out of nine matchups.

This victory comes at the end of a season during which the very young team represented Italy in global events in Portugal and the USA, achieving results that, over the course of the season, elevated them to the top of the Ranking List nationally.

Impact and future prospects

The success on Sunday was already anticipated at the September World Championships, where Giulia Conti, with a prestigious 5th place, outperformed the other crews, both Italian and international.

The youth of the team has attracted the attention of the national sailing leadership, especially in view of the upcoming inclusion of “match race” in the Olympic program.
