The Garda Jazz Festival offers musicians of all levels the opportunity to participate in a workshop led by Andrea Tarozzi, scheduled for August 2nd. This session will focus on the fundamentals of jazz improvisation, an essential element for anyone wishing to explore this musical genre.

Workshop Topics

During the workshop, participants will have the chance to tackle several key topics, including:

  • Elements of Jazz Harmony: discussions will cover the relationships between scales and chords.
  • Analysis of a Standard: the form, harmonic progression, and interrelations between chords will be examined, along with the scales to use based on the chords themselves.
  • Study of a Phrase from a Famous Solo: participants will analyze iconic phrases from the jazz repertoire.
  • Ensemble Practice: there will be opportunities to apply the learned concepts by playing together with various instruments.

To facilitate learning, musical equipment such as a piano, drums, and amplifiers for guitar and bass will be available.

Master Andrea Tarozzi

Andrea Tarozzi has a solid musical background. He graduated with honors in Piano in 1989 from the Conservatorio Campiani in Mantova. His passion for jazz led him to study with renowned musicians such as Stefano Battaglia and Kenny Barron, as well as Barry Harris in New York. In 2000, he completed a three-year diploma in Jazz Music at the Conservatorio Bonporti in Trento under the guidance of Franco d’Andrea, followed by a second-level academic diploma with honors in Jazz Musical Disciplines from the Conservatorio di Rovigo in 2010.

Recently, in February 2024, he won the prestigious Lugano International Music Competition in the jazz piano category. His discography includes several significant releases, ranging from the trio “Blues for Elis” to his most recent album “In the Roy’s Mood,” released in 2023.

The registration fee to participate in the workshop is set at 30 euros. Interested individuals can obtain further information and register at the Scuola Musicale Alto Garda, located at Viale Guella 6 in Riva del Garda.
