A new project aimed at safeguarding the native bleak fish has been launched between Limone and Riva del Garda. Approximately one million eggs of this now-rare indigenous species have been placed in two aquatic cages in the Val Gola, a protected natural area. The promoters of the project, which include fishing associations and local municipalities, express satisfaction with this reintroduction effort, hoping that the fry will be able to reproduce independently on the shores as they did in the past.
Meanwhile, regarding the whitefish, the repopulation of the species remains stalled. Recently, the Lombardy Region’s Council approved a motion to study the compatibility of whitefish with indigenous species such as the carpione. This step is considered crucial for understanding the impact of different species in the lake and for planning any future interventions.
