Lake Garda Lombardy Tourism Data: 9 Million Visitors and an 86/100 Reputation Score

The recent Lake Garda Lombardy Tourism data reveals nine million visitors in 2025, 81% of whom were international guests, and an impressive online reputation score of 86 out of 100. These figures emerge from the IODAH platform data, presented by the Lago di Garda Lombardia Consortium in Gardone Riviera to local mayors, administrators, and industry operators. The declared objective is to shift the methodology: moving beyond merely counting arrivals to understanding visitor demographics, preferences, and the value they bring to the territory.

From Counting Tourists to Data Analysis

The IODAH (Intelligence On Destination And Hospitality) platform, adopted by the Consortium in the spring, has provided its first comprehensive results. Fabio Primerano, director of the “AI for Travel, Tourism and Hospitality” department, explained that the system cross-references data from over 6,000 operators with 637,000 online reviews. “We know where value originates, particularly in high-end wine tourism and local experiences, and we identify areas for growth,” Primerano noted, highlighting navigation, sustained quality during peak months, and mid-range dining.

A Beloved Destination with Room to Grow

In sentiment analysis, “love” is the emotion most frequently associated with the lake by visitors, boasting a positive polarity over 60%, compared to 35% for competing destinations. Hotels score highly for staff (93.6), location (92), and cleanliness (91.5), while wine tourism and local activities reach 95 and 92 respectively. The Lombard side of the lake features three of the six hotels awarded Michelin Keys and 98 restaurants holding a Travellers’ Choice award.

In 2025, arrivals grew by 2.2% and overnight stays by 2.7%. Germany remains the primary market at 40%, though growth is slowing, while the UK, Poland, and the Czech Republic are expanding. The foreign visitor share vastly exceeds the national average of 54%. The season is also extending, with September occupancy forecasts exceeding 80%.

Choosing Which Tourists to Attract

“Counting arrivals is like driving while only looking in the rearview mirror,” stated Consortium President Stefania Lorenzoni. “The right question today is not how many tourists we can attract, but which tourists we want to attract, with what promise, and with what value for those who live and work on this lake year-round.” Lorenzoni emphasized that these insights will translate into concrete actions with operators and municipalities, ensuring the region’s sustainable growth.
