Lake Garda Road and Tunnel Works Near Limone Begin, Ending Mid-December

Other works are underway on the «Gardesana Occidentale». After completing the works at Forbisicle (south of Campione) and removing the construction site that was used to secure the rocky wall above the road, personnel and equipment have moved closer to the settlement of Limone, behind the Pergola and Splendid hotels.

The section involved is at kilometer 103.300, covering about forty meters. The works to be carried out are similar to those completed at Forbisicle: attaching metal nets to the mountain using anchors. This will be a job that requires about twenty days and is expected to be finished shortly after mid-December.

In practice, the work will coincide with ongoing activities between Limone and Riva, in the tunnel inaugurated by President Ciampi last July. Road closure times will allow “windows” of 15 minutes every hour for vehicle passage.

However, considering that the state road is also blocked further north, inconveniences will be limited to residents only. Additional works started yesterday in some of the longer tunnels in the northern part of the lake.

These are being carried out by Omnitel and, once completed, will enable the reception and making of mobile phone calls inside the tunnels thanks to the installation of special equipment: a significant measure especially for emergency calls related to safety.

The first works were carried out in the first tunnel between Gargnano and Tignale, known as «Casel de la Tor». In the same tunnel, Anas is painting the side walls.
