Lake Garda’s Historic Road Network: Preservation and Future Policies

Historically, the road network around Lake Garda has always played a minor role compared to waterways and boat communication routes. While the historical road system certainly has its worthy past, does it also have a future? And what policies should be implemented to protect or enhance it?

Conference on Preservation Policies

The theme of “Policies for the Conservation and Transformation of Lake Garda’s Historical Road Network” will be the focus of the conference on Saturday, the 22nd, organized by the Fondazione Cominelli of Cisano San Felice del Benaco. The topic of conserving and partially transforming the historic road network is particularly delicate and complex, as it involves both the expectations for traffic improvement or adaptation and the issue of preserving the landscape of the lake system, of which the road network is an integral part.

Starting at 3:30 pm, after greetings from the Foundation’s president and local authorities, architect Giampaolo Treccani from the Politecnico will present the initiative. Following this, professor Daniela Zumiani, an art historian, will speak about the Garda landscape, “Historical Identity and Territorial Structures.” Architect Alberta Cazzani from the Politecnico di Milano will present the exhibition and discuss issues related to the valorization of the historic road network.

Finally, architects Roberto Sordina and Serena Maffioletti from Venice will discuss infrastructures in the contemporary landscape. Next to the conference, an exhibition of graduation theses on the topic will be displayed until Sunday, featuring works by Luigia Bontempi, Laura Cuomo, Paola Ronchi, Davide Sigurtà, Maurizio Boriani, Alberta Cazzani and Camillo Sangiorgio from the Politecnico di Milano Department of Design.

The exhibition is coordinated by Professor Treccani.
