Landslide Disrupts Access to Riva; Ferry Service Restores Connectivity

To break the isolation and overcome the obstacle posed by the most recent landslide, allowing access to Riva from Limone, a ferry service has been established that runs continuously from 8:30 am to 9:10 pm.

In practice, there will be two opportunities to go to Riva every hour, and likewise for the return trip. Mayor Battista Martinelli has no doubt in «thanking the sensitivity of engineer Coppola and Navigarda, which immediately set up the service for vehicles and passengers».

Administrative and school situation

It should be remembered that Limone is in a peculiar situation where, although administratively part of our province, it refers to Trentino for a range of services, starting with healthcare: for years, there has been an agreement with Trentino authorities.

A similar situation repeats regarding attendance at high schools (and, for some years, also for middle schools), as, barring rare exceptions, all students attend school in Riva and surrounding areas.

Impact on tourism and the landslide

Tourism, moreover, primarily relies on the Gardesana road, and this additional obstacle will lead to more meetings and discussions as decisions are awaited.

Meanwhile, another development has emerged yesterday concerning the landslide south of Limone, around which work has been ongoing for over a month.

Contrary to what was previously announced (opening from 9 am to 4 pm from today until January 3), the road will instead be open with alternating traffic for all 24 hours until January 7.

To ensure the safety of motorists, teams of volunteers, Civil Protection, and police will be deployed who will immediately halt traffic in case of danger.

No issues, instead, at Forbisicle (just before the Campione tunnel, for those heading from Salò): work has been suspended and will resume after the holidays.
