Lazise and Peschiera Honor Sailors with Memorial, Parade, and Lake Cruise
Beret, sailor’s cap, and whistle. Three essential objects to truly call oneself a sailor.
And these “three pieces” are highly valued by the sailors of Lazise and Peschiera, so much so that in their invitation to members of the Associazione marinai d’Italia, they highlighted them in bold, urging recipients not to forget them.
In keeping with tradition, they also planned to celebrate Santa Barbara, the patroness of the armed forces, with a lovely cruise on the lake, serving as the perfect conclusion to a very special day.
Special celebration and a call to sailors
“Because,” explains Gianni Olivetti, president of the Leonello Parolini group of Lazise, “we sailors feel inherently connected to the young men who departed from the Taranto base, supporting the United States, for the war in Afghanistan.
We are confident that the Italians sailors will stand out for courage and integrity. We also hope that the mission evolves more into a peacekeeping operation than a war.”
Memorial and celebration of Lazise and Peschiera sections
To honor the many friends who fell in the duty of their service and to celebrate the patroness, the sections of Lazise and Peschiera have decided to join forces to repeat the wonderful experience from last year.
They will gather the day after tomorrow, Sunday, at the Unità d’Italia pier, at the Peschiera port, at 10 a.m.
At 10:40 a.m., the sailors will board the Tonale motor ship of the Navigarda fleet, where a mass will be celebrated.
At 11:30 a.m., disembarkation is scheduled, followed by a parade through the streets led by the Città di Peschiera marching band.
After the parade, on the harbor, a wreath of laurel will be laid at the monument to the fallen in the presence of Mayor Luigi Dalla Pellegrina and military authorities of the fortified city.
Social lunch and lake cruise
At 12:30 p.m., boarding for the social lunch aboard the motor ship, which will then set sail on a cruise across the lake, visiting various towns on the Brescia and Verona shores.
The entire cruise will be accompanied by an orchestra for entertainment.
The return of the motor ship to the Peschiera port is scheduled for the evening.
Then, everyone can relax to the sound of the whistle, with the blue beret and sailor’s cap around the neck.
